This reminded me of when I read Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. On the surface it"s a collection of interconnected short stories but it is so much more. Set in an international newspaper based in Rome each chapter focuses on a different employee of the paper. What results is an insightful and hilarious commentary on the media and newspapers. And you can"t help but have enormous sympathy for all of the flawed characters that make up the paper. Jon
The Imperfectionists by Tom Rachman: From the news desk of a fictional English language newspaper based in Rome, we glimpse into the life of old-school reportage, the comedy and tragedy of a cast of workers and an all to close reminder of the dwindling relevance of the newspaper in the Digital Age. A heartening, engrossing read from a promising young author. Jess
